Frenchie Series a Hit with Surrey Students

Frenchie Series a Hit with Surrey Students

What a blast Mary Laudien had at Hazelgrove School in Surrey  last week!  The students must have read her Author Visit flyer because the Grade 4’s, 5’s and 6’s (all 300 of them!) arrived at the sessions ready to have fun.  They laughed during the blog readings, they related to the pet owner wanna-be Ethan, and they enjoyed hearing about the chaotic mis-adventures that the thirteen year old main character and his quirky and conniving grandmother get themselves into.

Sharing what inspired the author to write the Frenchie series and exploring the elements of creating powerful blogs set them up for a Give-Away Contest.  Four signed copies of Frenchie’s Best Friend-Follow the Blog were left with the teacher-librarian … Read the rest

Dog Sitting Inspirational

Dog Sitting Inspirational

If you’ve read the first two books of my Frenchie series, you’ll know that Ethan ( the 13 year old main character) gets into some crazy and hilarious predicaments in his quest to become a Frenchie dog owner. The inspiration for the first novel in the series came from dog sitting my Frenchie grand-dogs and trying to convince my son to write a blog about his misadventures as a dog groomer. This didn’t happen, so my imagination took over and the story evolved as Ethan plotted with his quirky, conniving Grandma to  gain ownership of a Frenchie without his overworked, single mom suspecting a thing. He entertains his friends and Frenchie followers on his nightly blog, “Frenchie’s Best Friend.”

Kids BLOG the Darndest Things !

Kids BLOG the Darndest Things !

Writing my books, Frenchie’s Best Friend and Frenchie X 2 from a 13 year old’s perspective through his nightly blog has been a blast!  It’s also such fun going into schools and discussing with intermediate grade students what makes for powerful blogs that others of similar interests will want to read. They immediately identify entertaining and humorous as the key factors to writing a successful blog.  During my presentations, there isn’t a lot of time, but just enough for students to make a brief attempt at posting a blog.  Some made personal connections with Ethan (the 13 year old main character) and his intense desire to become a French Bulldog owner; while others reviewed the book and made recommendations … Read the rest

Doggie Day Care- Will Your Pet Pass the Entrance Screening?

Doggie Day Care- Will Your Pet Pass the Entrance Screening?

Could there actually be a similarity between children being accepted for placement in a Private School and dog owners scoring a prized spot for their pet in a local Doggie Day Care?  Brace yourself people…word has it that Doggie Day Cares now spend anywhere up to three hours interviewing the pet owners and their dogs as they move them through a thorough screening process.  That’s right, you don’t just drop your pet off and pay the fee, you first have to be accepted as a client of whom they choose to grant entrance. Apparently it isn’t enough to pay for a service. No, you and your pet must meet the admittance criteria to qualify for a placement in a quality … Read the rest

It’s Hysterical!

It’s Hysterical!

While working out in front of the TV this morning, I caught a segment of Regis and Kelly about dog grooming tips with a “shi-shi” pet groomer. The insanity that Regis experienced while attempting to wash a fairly docile and receptive dog, had me in hysterics.  And guess what? This appears to be the reaction my readers are having  to Ethan’s antics with his bargain dog washing business. Readers of all ages  are chuckling aloud over the chaotic challenges and tensions faced throughout his devious covert plan to own his very own Frenchie. It warms my heart that readers are finding the book hilarious and experiencing some belly laughs. (I can only imagine the reaction of anyone who has attempted … Read the rest

SOCIETY IS GAGA OVER THEIR PETS

SOCIETY IS GAGA OVER THEIR PETS

Pampering our furry friends has become the norm. Five Star Hotels, Doggie Spas, and Organic Pet Restaurants are mainstream in most cities all over the world. Have you noticed the fashion statements parading down the streets and doggie parks in your neighborhood?  The bling and chic outfits are simply amazing! Living in rainy British Columbia, there is nothing cuter than spotting one of my favorite breeds (Which one could that possibly be?) all decked out in raincoats with matching boots and hat. Spa treatments are exotic (and pricy), including massages, moisturizer creams, and even acupuncture. Pet owners pay monthly health insurance premiums to ensure that they can afford the vet bills incurred for these health and beauty procedures. … Read the rest

Arf! Arf! It's Published!

The publishing process was a little more time intensive than I had initially realized.  The great news is that Frenchie’s Best Friend- Follow the Blog is now available to my readers and I am hoping that you will order your copy as soon as possible and offer your feedback on the story.  If you order from Amazon.com, there is an opportunity to leave a message for other customers to read.  As well, there is a place on this blog for you to add your comments.  I am hopeful that you will enjoy reading the story as much as I had writing it.  When you finish the book you will realize why there must be a sequel, the story just couldn’t … Read the rest

Today the interior design and the cover of Frenhie’s Best Friend have been approved.   They will be sending the entire formatted  copy back to me online, within the next week. I’m finally convinced you’ll have the opportunity to read it very soon! In the meantime, I am already well into writing the sequel to Frenchie’s Best Friend (Chapter Nine). The story just gets more complicated and humorous! Keep checking back, as I will post where the book is available just as soon as everything is complete.

Tick Tock Tick Tock

Tick Tock Tick Tock

The publishing journey with CreateSpace at Amazon.com has been such a great experience.  The edited manuscript has now been uploaded and the design team is currently formatting the book and preparing the book jacket.  It is such fun thinking about how to create a book cover that will make my readers want to pick up the book and read it. I can’t wait to see the two mock-ups in about a week’s time.  The book is coming to life and may even become available before the end of February.
